Woman Walking on Freeway Hit, Killed

Share

A 43-year-old woman who had gotten out of her van after an accident on the Ronald Reagan Freeway was struck and killed by another vehicle Wednesday night, the California Highway Patrol said.

The Simi Valley woman, whom officers would not immediately identify, had been driving a van that was rear-ended shortly after 6 p.m. by a pickup truck driven by a 17-year-old. She and the other driver, who were not injured, pulled their westbound vehicles to the center divider west of Madera Road.

CHP Sgt. Robert Dickie said the woman then went around her van toward the fast lane, possibly to retrieve something. It was then that she was hit by a sport utility vehicle. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The CHP did not release the names of the other motorists involved.

This was the second pedestrian fatality on the freeway in less than two weeks. A Canoga Park man who left his disabled vehicle near the Kuehner Drive exit was struck and killed Jan. 24.
