New University Gets Transportation Funds

Share

Boosting efforts to create an environmentally friendly campus, the Ventura County Transportation Commission on Friday allocated nearly $13 million to Ventura County’s developing Cal State university for a range of projects.

In all, the seven-member commission distributed $33 million in state and federal funds for countywide projects.

As a result of the funding, the 2,000 students who will attend the inaugural phase of the Cal State Channel Islands campus in the fall will have access to a range of advanced transportation programs meant to minimize pollution and traffic.

Those projects include creation of a shuttle bus service--using a fleet of fuel-efficient buses--to carry students to and from the Camarillo campus. Students will also have access to electric bicycles and new bike lanes on nearby Lewis and Los Posas roads.
