One man was killed and four others were injured late Friday in a single-car accident in which police suspect alcohol was a factor.

Frank McIntire, 18, of Chatsworth, was killed when the pickup truck in which he was riding careened off Lassen Street and struck a light pole and power box near Lurline Avenue at about 11:50 p.m., Los Angeles police said.

McIntire, who was riding in the bed of the pickup, was ejected during the accident and hit his head on the ground, said Officer Norman Nagengast.

The driver, Timothy Farran, 18, of Chatsworth, was arrested and is facing a charge of vehicular manslaughter, Nagengast said.

Nagengast said Farran was not booked because he was hospitalized at Northridge Hospital Medical Center. He said a sample of Farran’s blood was taken to test for the presence of alcohol.

Three others, including two juveniles who were riding in the cab of the truck, suffered minor injuries, Nagengast said.

Nagengast declined to say why police suspect alcohol was involved.
