Orange Coast Sets School Record With 10 Doubles

Orange Coast’s first seven hits were doubles and the Pirates finished with a school-record 10 in a 21-0 victory over Antelope Valley in the Coast Classic baseball tournament Saturday.

The previous record of nine was set in 1957.

Brandon Thompson had two doubles and a home run and drove in three for OCC (2-0).

Jason Reuss was four for four, including two doubles, for the Pirates.

The Pirates’ Paul DeVries hit a grand slam and finished with eight RBIs as OCC beat Monterey Peninsula, 17-4. Matt Pope had seven hits, including four doubles, and scored seven runs on the day.

In another Coast Classic game:

Saddleback 15, Grossmont 13--Jason Marian, who has 13 hits in the first four games, had four hits, including a double and three-run homer, to lead Saddleback (4-0).

At the Desert tournament:

Cypress 13, Victor Valley 0--Gerald Laird went four for six with three runs scored and three RBIs to lead Cypress (1-1).

In the South Coast Classic:

Santa Ana 13, Los Angeles Valley 1--Danny Trujillo hit a two-run triple during Santa Ana’s five-run second inning and Albert Rodgers went two for three with two RBIs.
