Two men who fled from police in a stolen white Bentley smashed it into another car Monday night, critically injuring that car’s driver, authorities said.

The collision, which sent one car careening into a power pole and set the Bentley ablaze, occurred about 9:20 p.m. on Tampa Avenue at the Ventura Freeway, according to Sgt. Gregory Hoyte of the Los Angeles Police Department.

The crash caused a power outage. It was not immediately known how many residents were affected.

An unidentified person believed to be the driver of the car that was struck was taken by ambulance to Northridge Hospital Medical Center, suffering from critical injuries, Hoyte said. Another officer said an apparent hostage in the Bentley was hospitalized with head injuries.

LAPD spokesman Edward Funes said two men fled from the Bentley. One was arrested about 9:30 p.m., while police searched for the other, closing surface streets and the onramps to the Ventura Freeway around Tampa Avenue.

Police said the crash occurred after patrol officers investigating a call about a prowler in the 20000 block of Quedo Drive in Woodland Hills chased the stolen Bentley.
