Businessman John Campbell, who will vie for the 70th Assembly District seat against Irvine Mayor Christina L. Shea in the 2000 campaign, will be the guest speaker at the Tustin Area Republican Assembly’s meeting at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 22.

“I am running to provide leadership,” Campbell, an Irvine resident, said Wednesday in announcing his bid. “My career has been in business, but my roots are in politics.”

The seat for the 70th District, which includes most of Tustin, will be vacated in 2000 because of term limits. Since the California primary has been advanced to March 7, 2000, candidates must begin campaigning sooner than usual.
