Waves Beat Titans on Homer in 7th

G.J. Raymundo’s home run in the bottom of the seventh inning led Pepperdine to an 8-7 victory over Cal State Fullerton on Wednesday in Malibu.

The game-winning homer by Raymundo capped a series of rallies for the Waves (6-0), who trailed by scores of 3-0 and 6-4. Pepperdine eventually took a 7-6 lead in the fourth on a two-run double by Danny Garcia.

The Titans (1-3) rallied to tie the score at 7-7 on Reed Johnson’s RBI triple in the sixth. First baseman Chris Beck’s three-run homer in the fourth had given Fullerton a 6-4 advantage.

Johnson and Beck went four for five for the Titans, who finished with 13 hits. Beck also had five RBIs.

Pepperdine’s Steve Schenewerk (2-0) earned the victory, pitching two scoreless innings to close the game. Garcia and Woody Cliffords each had three hits for the Waves.

Pepperdine, ranked 30th by Collegiate Baseball, is off to its best start since 1981. Kirk Saarloos (0-1) took the loss for the 14th-ranked Titans.
