More than a year after intense negotiations with neighbors and Orange Unified School District officials, the city is ready to unveil new athletic fields at McPherson Magnet School nextmonth. The $2.5-million project includes 18 acres of baseballdiamonds with dugouts, fences and batting cages; regulation soccer fields; basketball courts; volleyball courts; and a tot lot.
Neighbors protested the plan when it was first floated in October 1997, but city officials compromised on ways to contain noise and ease parking.
The dedication ceremony kicks off at 9 a.m. March 6 at the major field of the school, 333 S. Prospect Ave.
