For all of their complaints about the extra travel, the Kings are benefiting from geographic fortune--being in the Western Conference.

“If we were in the East right now, the guys would be booking their vacations. We’d be so far out of it that it wouldn’t be funny.

“But we’re only three points out of the playoffs, and we’ve got to take advantage of it.”

Calgary tied Buffalo, 2-2, Wednesday and caught Edmonton for the eighth and final playoff spot in the West with 52 points. The Kings have 49.

King defenseman Steve Duchesne played in his 900th NHL game Wednesday night.
