In an effort to help working parents, the city will begin offering an after-school program for elementary school students on Monday.

For older children, the city plans three ski and snowboard trips to a local ski resort.

Children attending Bay Laurel and Chaparral elementary schools will be bused to Creekside Park for the after-school program, said Amy Fogel, a spokeswoman with the city’s Community Services Department.

Children may attend the after-school program at the park from Monday through Friday from 2:30 to 6 p.m. The cost of the camp is $39 per month for children who attend the camp one day a week, or $180 per month for children to attend the camp up to five days a week.

The camp will include snacks, games, arts and crafts and sports. Parents may register their children for the camp at Juan Bautista de Anza Park at 3701 Lost Hills Road, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For older kids looking for fun in the snow, the city is also offering three ski and snowboard trips to the Mountain High Ski Resort in the San Gabriel Mountains. The trips will be on Jan. 18 and Feb. 1 and 15; buses leave de Anza park at 6 a.m. and return at 6:30 p.m.

The trip costs $41 for children aged 11 to 13 and $49 for those 14 to 17. Fees include all-day lift tickets and transportation, but participants must bring their own ski equipment. Ski lessons are $12 and snowboard lessons are $18.
