ART Delays Opener

Alternative Repertory Theatre has postponed by two weeks the launch of its inaugural season in Santa Ana’s Artists Village. It will premiere “Barrio Everyman,” by Roy Conboy, on Jan. 30, ART director Gary Christensen said this week. Previews will run Jan. 22-23 and 27-28.

The postponement, caused by delays in construction of Cal State Fullerton’s graduate-student center in the Artists Village, also forced ART to cancel its production of Steve Martin’s “Picasso at the Lapin Agile,” which was to close the season in May and June. Lucille DeView’s “A Summer With Hemingway’s Twin” moves into the Martin slot.

Christensen said he has not determined how the company will compensate season-ticket holders for the canceled play. CSUF officials still plan to inaugurate the student center with a Feb. 28 exhibition titled “Suspended Animation.”
