Guy Carbonneau’s timing was perfect Wednesday, and the Dallas Stars’ streak continues.

Carbonneau scored his first goal this season with 6:49 left, and the Stars rallied from a two-goal first-period deficit to extend their franchise-record unbeaten streak to 15 games with a 6-4 victory over the Vancouver Canucks at Dallas.

“I know I’m not going to score 20 or 30 goals a season like I used to,” the 38-year-old center said after his first goal in 44 games. “But when you go that long without scoring, you rush your shot and squeeze the stick too tight. Tonight I had a good chance, took my time and scored on it.”

Carbonneau lifted a rebound over fallen goalie Garth Snow for his first goal since March 29, 1998, giving the Stars a 5-4 lead.

The Stars are 12-0-3 during their run, the league’s longest active streak. Vancouver, which got two goals and an assist from Markus Naslund, lost its seventh consecutive game.

New Jersey 5, New York Rangers 2--The visiting Devils extended their record to 9-0-4 over the Rangers since last losing a regular-season game to them on Jan. 12, 1997. It was the second time in three weeks that the Devils prevented the Rangers (15-16-7) from going over .500 for the first time this season.

New Jersey, beating the Rangers for the fourth time in four meetings this season, improved their Eastern Conference-leading record to 22-10-5. The Devils are 7-1-1 in their last nine road games.

Ottawa 2, Detroit 0--Ron Tugnutt got the shutout as the Senators extended their unbeaten streak to a franchise-high six games while becoming the first team to blank the Red Wings at Detroit in nearly a year.

Andreas Dackell and Igor Kravchuk scored for Ottawa. Tugnutt made 24 saves as Detroit failed to score at Joe Louis Arena for the first time since Toronto’s Felix Potvin blanked them on Jan. 21, 1998.

Florida 2, Colorado 2--Scott Mellanby tied the score with 39 seconds left in regulation, the second of two third-period goals that enabled the Panthers to tie the Avalanche at Denver.
