Fuhr Says He’s Done in 2000

St. Louis Blues goalie Grant Fuhr, who was on five Stanley Cup-winning teams with the Edmonton Oilers in a seven-year span, says he plans to retire after next season. Fuhr, 36, was benched by Coach Joel Quenneville in place of Jamie McLennan for a third consecutive game Thursday against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Boston Bruin defenseman Ray Bourque has extended his NHL record for All-Star game starts to 12. Joining Bourque as North America all-star starters at the Jan. 24 game in Tampa, Fla., are goaltender Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils, defenseman Al MacInnis of the St. Louis Blues, center Steve Yzerman of the Detroit Red Wings and wings Brendan Shanahan of Detroit and Paul Kariya of the Ducks. . . . New York Ranger left wing Esa Tikkanen, a member of five Stanley Cup championship teams, has cleared waivers and was sent to Hartford of the American Hockey League. . . . Nashville Predator backup goalie Eric Fichaud will be out for the rest of the season after separating his left shoulder in practice Tuesday, the same injury that forced him to miss 42 games last season.
