Eye Injury Likely to Sideline Pushor

Share

Defenseman Jamie Pushor wore a heavy bandage over his left eye Thursday, a day after suffering a scratched cornea when he was high-sticked by Buffalo’s Vaclav Varada.

Pushor isn’t expected to play tonight against the Phoenix Coyotes, but hopes to play Sunday against the Edmonton Oilers.

“I have to wear this patch for one more day and we’ll see how it is,” Pushor said. “I’m told by the doctors that it usually heals within 24 to 48 hours. It’s a little painful. Any time there’s anything with the eyes or the head, you’ve got to be concerned.”

Backup goalie Dominic Roussel is scheduled to get his first home start tonight. Guy Hebert has played all 18 games at Anaheim this season.

“He’s played very well,” Coach Craig Hartsburg said of Roussel, who is 1-3-1 with a 1.99 goals-against average in five starts. “He works hard and he’s stayed sharp in practice. I have confidence in him.”

Rookie center Johan Davidsson skated on his own Thursday, but his sprained right ankle isn’t strong enough to allow him to play tonight.
