Quick Pins Help Fifth-Ranked Loara Roll Past Kennedy
Loara, ranked fifth in Orange County, lost only three matches and cruised past Kennedy, 49-10, in an Empire League wrestling meet Thursday at Kennedy.
Loara heavyweight Jose Hernandez won with a pin in 26 seconds. Josh Galvan earned a pin in 1 minute 8 seconds at 103 pounds and Orlando Galvan won with a pin in 1:17 at 112 pounds for Loara (3-0, 1-0 in league).
In another Empire League meet:
El Dorado 72, Cypress 9--James Richardson (140) and Dan Dubois (145) were among seven wrestlers who won by falls for host El Dorado (6-3, 1-0). El Dorado’s Bobby Bloodworth pinned his opponent in 10 seconds.
Kyle Waldie (135) won by fall for Cypress.
Katella 55, Century 13--Alex Hoang of Katella (4-6, 1-0) pinned Chris De Lo Santos in 29 seconds at 140 pounds. At 189 pounds, Marlon Roman pinned Canyon’s Victor Izaguirre in 51 seconds.
Katella’s Danny Rooks improved to 16-2 (11 pins) with a pin of Danny Chavez in 1:25.
In the Garden Grove League:
Santiago 65, La Quinta 15--Santiago had 10 pins, including a 12-second pin by 140-pounder Jose Flores and a 15-second pin by heavyweight Joe Bonilla. The Cavaliers improved to 24-7, 1-0.
In a Pacific Coast League meet:
No. 10 Laguna Hills 48, University 24--Laguna Hills’ Victor Ha (121) improved to 22-1 by pinning Daniel Kang, who was 21-4 going in. The Hawks improved to 11-2, 1-0; University is 0-1.
In the Sea View League:
No. 9 El Toro 42, Santa Margarita 31--El Toro led, 24-19, before getting pins from Andy Twentyman (152 pounds), Josh Jarrett (160) and Danny Bortolussi (171).
Woodbridge 42, Newport Harbor 34--Robert Valenzuela (119) improved to 19-0 with a 4-2 overtime victory for visiting Woodbridge (10-9, 1-0). Newport Harbor is 0-1 in league.
In the South Coast League:
Dana Hills 43, Mater Dei 21--Grant Entsminger won, 19-7, at 189 pounds for Dana Hills (2-0 in league).
San Clemente 40, Mission Viejo 16--San Clemente’s Joe Brady, ranked fourth in the county at 145 pounds, pinned fifth-ranked Noah Kondarfer in 5:21. Brady led 19-9 before the pin.
David Luciani won a decision over Danny Cox of Mission Viejo (18-11, 0-2), 7-3 in overtime. Cox is ranked fifth in the county. San Clemente improved to 17-2, 2-0.
In the Sunset League:
Esperanza 57, Los Alamitos 12--Chris Thomson won by a technical fall at 130 pounds and Chuck Reinhart won with a pin in 1:01 at 171 pounds for visiting Esperanza (19-1, 1-0).
Marina 34, Edison 26--Marina pulled ahead, 28-26, with a pin in the 215-pound weight class and then sealed the victory with a forfeit from Edison, which did not have a heavyweight wrestler. Matt Ayala (130 pounds), Jason Mendoza (112) and Matt Marinez (103) had pins for Edison.
