Deputy Brad Fowler received a hero’s standing ovation at last week’s City Council meeting for breaking a window to rescue a young man trapped in a truck engulfed in flames on Nov. 8.

“A tragic outcome was avoided because of his disregard for his personal safety,” Lt. Bill Leonard said as he presented Fowler with a commendation signed by former Sheriff Brad Gates. Then Mayor John Greiner gave Fowler a plaque from the city as his wife and two sons looked on.
