Fiset Is Likely Goalie Up to All-Star Break

Share

Figure Stephane Fiset to be in goal tonight when the Kings play at San Jose, and to play most of the five games remaining until the All-Star break.

“When we get back from the break, I’ll sit down with Don [Edwards, the goalie coach] and work it out,” Coach Larry Robinson said Sunday of a rotation between Fiset and Jamie Storr for the second half of the season.

The idea is to get Fiset back into shape after being out since Dec. 12 because of a groin injury. He reported being no worse for wear Sunday after stopping 32 shots in a 1-1 tie with Edmonton a night earlier.

When the season began, the plan was to have him play about 60% of the games, with backup Storr getting about 40%. Those plans were shattered when both sustained groin injuries Oct. 18 against Colorado.

Storr had played 10 consecutive games until Saturday while Fiset recovered from his latest injury.

“Realistically, the No. 1 guy should get about 60% of the games,” said Robinson, “and Steph is the No. 1 guy, based on what he’s done since he came here.

“But Jamie played really well in those 10 games and showed us something. He’s young, and the knock on him was that he couldn’t play more than four or five good games in a row.”

In his last eight games, Storr has given up only 13 goals.
