UCI Gets Rare Victory at New Mexico State
Guard Megan Stafford’s 21 points, four assists and four steals helped UC Irvine to a 60-53 victory over host New Mexico State Sunday in a Big West Conference women’s basketball game.
Brandy Hudson had 15 points and 10 rebounds for UC Irvine (5-8, 1-1) and teammates Chelsea Mackey and Jeanine Horton had 10 points each.
New Mexico State is 4-10, 1-1.
Sunday’s victory was only the second time UC Irvine has beaten New Mexico State in Las Cruces since 1985.
In another Big West Conference game:
Nevada 68, CS Fullerton 61--CS Fullerton led at the end of the first half, 39-33, but came apart in the second as Nevada outscored the Titans, 35-22, to take the lead and the victory.
Rhonda Anderson led CS Fullerton with 15 points. Teammate Andrea Thieme had 14 points and three assists.
Carissa Meyer had 22 points for Nevada, which improves to 7-7, 2-0.
Cal State Fullerton is 2-11, 0-2.
