The county’s rescission of three permits for 1999 events in Mile Square Regional Park proved to be the last straw for the Save Mile Square Park Committee in its ongoing fight against the county. The permits were for two model airplane events and the Boy Scouts of America’s Scout-O-Rama.

The group plans to pursue legal action against the county since learning that the permits were reversed recently to make way for the anticipated expansion of a private golf course, said committee chairman Bob Richards. The course’s proposed expansion to 36 holes would spill into the triangular area of the county-owned park. Residents and hobbyists who use the area oppose the development and want it available to park visitors.

An environmental report on the golf course expansion was released last month and a 45-day review period for public comments is underway. In March, the proposal will be heard by the county’s Planning Commission. County supervisors will consider final lease approval in April.
