Children’s Shelter Gets $100,000 Gift

An unexpected $100,000 donation from a couple who support Casa Pacifica helped the shelter for abused and neglected children exceed the halfway point in its annual fund-raising campaign.

“It was a total surprise,” said Steve Elson, executive director of Casa Pacifica Children’s Crisis Care and Treatment Center. The couple making the donation, who requested anonymity, had contributed smaller amounts in the past, he added.

The center’s board of directors will decide by next month how to spend the money, such as applying it to the facility’s endowment fund or including it in its fund-raising goal of $400,000. Already, Casa Pacifica has raised $260,000 in the first month of the campaign.
