Howard Pember Cady; Retired Warrant Officer

Former Oxnard resident Howard Pember Cady, a retired Navy warrant officer, died Monday in San Diego Hospice following a lengthy illness. He was 75.

Cady, who previously had been residing with his family in Yuma, Ariz., is the father of Oxnard Assistant Police Chief Thomas Cady.

Howard Cady was born in Falls City, Neb., and spent his adult career in the Navy. He served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam, his family said.

He entered the military when he was 17 and retired with the rank of chief warrant officer in 1971.

In 1945, Cady met and married Mary McGill, who at the time was also in the Navy. The couple lived in Ventura County for more than 15 years, his family said.

Cady was a nationally recognized skeet shooter and he also enjoyed golf. He was described as a devoted family man. In retirement, Cady and his wife toured the country in their motor home.

In addition to his wife and son, he is survived by another son, William E. Cady of Yuma; a daughter, Nancy Sillman of La Jolla; two brothers, William A. Cady of Oxnard and Larry Cady of Dulzura in San Diego County, and three grandchildren.

There will be a service at 12:30 p.m. today in the Marine Corps Recruitment Depot Chapel in San Diego, with interment--including full military honors--to follow at 2 p.m. at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to San Diego Hospice.
