Jewish Women’s Group to Open New Thrift Shop

Share

The National Council of Jewish Women will hold a grand opening today for its new “superstore” thrift shop in Van Nuys.

“This is our largest store,” said Sara Feldman, executive director of the NCJW/Los Angeles, adding that it’s the group’s second store in the San Fernando Valley and the sixth in Los Angeles.

The shop’s merchandise, which includes jewelry, designer clothing, collectibles and furniture, has all been donated. The group gets 60% of its net budget from thrift operations, Feldman said, with the remainder coming from donations, grants and memberships.

“When our thrift operation does well, we’re able to offer better and expanded services to the community.”

The Los Angeles division of the NCJW has been serving the community for 90 years with programs including Women Helping Women and Women Helping Children, which offer services including counseling hotlines, housing, child-care welfare, support groups and tutoring.

Donations to the NCJW/LA can be made at the new Van Nuys location at 14526 Victory Blvd.

The store will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky is expected at today’s grand opening celebration, which begins at 11 a.m.
