El Dorado 4, Katella 3--Courtney Lee’s goalkeeping and El Dorado’s defense was the key as the Golden Hawks held Katella to one goal in the fourth quarter to preserve their lead. Lee stopped the Knights from tying the score when she blocked a shot with 30 seconds left.

Hannah Wevodau scored the winner, the second of her two goals in the game, in the first 30 seconds of the fourth quarter. Devon Wright scored Katella’s three goals.

In Freeway League girls’ basketball:

Sonora 65, Sunny Hills 38--Sarah Fister had 28 points and 23 rebounds for Sonora (10-6, 2-0).

In Empire League boys’ soccer:

No. 2 El Dorado 2, Katella 0--Scott Gwartz scored in the fifth minute off a cross from Dan Greer and Ignacio Cid scored in the 45th minute off a cross from Jay Larsen. Ryan Weirich made two saves for the Golden Hawks (17-0-1, 2-0) for his second league shutout.

Loara 2, Kennedy 1--Tony Cuellar scored in the 65th minute to lift host Loara (6-6-2, 1-1). Dardo Acuna scored in the 50th minute to give Loara a 1-0 lead and Ronald Assef made four saves for the Saxons. Brad Stear tied the score in the 60th minute for Kennedy (9-4-1, 0-2).

In the Golden West League:

No. 4 Santa Ana 7, Tustin 1--Hector Candelas had his second three-goal game of the season, bringing his season goal total to a team-leading 11. Santa Ana (8-3-4, 1-0-1) scored six goals in the first half. Isreal Lazo scored two goals and Danny Morales made three saves for the Saints.

No. 8 Servite 3, Ocean View 2--Matt Terry scored the winner in the 71st minute for Servite (14-3-3, 1-0-1). Terry has 13 goals in 16 games.

In the Sunset League:

Edison 1, No. 10 Los Alamitos 0 (OT)--Freshman Brian Gaeta scored on a header five minutes into the second overtime for Edison (2-0 in league). Jason Clifford had the assist on the goal and goalkeeper B.J. Hickie, with five saves, stopped Justin Waldrop’s breakaway in the fourth minute of overtime. Los Alamitos is 9-5-1, 1-1.
