The ins and outs of life at the turn of the century for Indians of California intrigued photographer Edward S. Curtis enough that he spent a quarter-century documenting them. Starting in 1901, and for the next 26 years, he shot thousands of images, 38 of which go on display starting today in Santa Ana in “Edward S. Curtis: Indians of the California Region.” The Curtis exhibition will be supplemented by early 20th century photos of Indian tribes of Orange County.
