Share

A former Internal Revenue Service officer in Laguna Niguel has pleaded guilty to lying to federal officers who were investigating her tax return.

In a plea agreement with prosecutors, Linda Paig, 52, admitted submitting altered documents during an audit of her 1993 return.

The U.S. attorney’s office said Paig lied about a series of deductions she took and failed to disclose that she had been reimbursed by her insurance company for damages to her family’s automobile.

She is to be sentenced March 29 by U.S. District Judge Ronald S.W. Lew on two counts of making a false statement to the IRS. She faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
