Martin Leads UCLA Over California

Maylana Martin scored 19 points Thursday night to lead 10th-ranked UCLA to an 87-62 victory over California at Oakland.

Janae Hubbard added 17 points as the Bruins, 13-4 overall and 5-0 in the Pacific 10 Conference, extended their winning streak to six games.

Shavaki Jackson scored 12 points for the Bears (6-7, 0-4), whose first home loss was their fifth in a row overall.

The Bruins had a big advantage at the foul line, making 31 of 38 free throws. Cal made 13 of 14.

Cal also committed 33 turnovers.

Marie Philman scored 13 points and Erica Gomez had 11 points and eight assists for the Bruins. Paige Bowie scored 11 points and Courtney Johnson added 10 for the Bears.

UCLA continued to add to its halftime advantage, scoring the first eight points of the second half to open a 45-27 lead.

The Bears, despite an 11-1 run midway through the second half, couldn’t get within 12 points of the lead.

Stanford 69, USC 49--Sarah Dimson scored a career-high 22 points, 18 in the first half, and had 11 rebounds to lead the Cardinal (7-8, 3-1) over the Trojans (6-8, 2-3) at Palo Alto.

Dimson made all six of her shots and six of seven free throws to help Stanford to a 34-25 halftime lead.

USC fought back to within 36-33 with 16 minutes to play before Stanford guard Milena Flores took over.

Flores scored all of her 14 points in the second half, including six during a crucial 10-0 run that gave her team a 46-33 lead with 11 minutes left.

USC, which made only 33% of its shots, fought back to within 48-41 with nine minutes left. But the Cardinal outscored the Trojans, 20-4, in the last eight minutes.

Center Adrain Williams led USC with 19 points. Tashara Carter added 11 points and 11 rebounds.
