Contagious ‘Buzz’

Share

In the alternate universe that is motion picture distribution doublespeak, Universal’s Nikki Rocco may honestly believe “we never announced a summer date” for the release of the sci-fi scream-fest “Virus” (“What Was Once a Long, Cold Season Heats Up for Movies,” by Judith I. Brennan, Jan. 11).

And I’m sure the fact that, according to the article, “buzz on the film has not been good” and that it is finally being released but “won’t be screened for critics” played no part in Rocco’s remarks.

But then, how does she explain the full color ad on Page 43 of the May 10, 1998, Sunday Calendar declaring “On August 14, Mankind Is History--VIRUS . . . It Is Aware”?
