Bon Jovi has reunited to record a new song, “Reel Life,” for the Ron Howard-directed movie “EDtv.” It will be the first single and video from the soundtrack album on Reprise, with a movie-related video also being shot for Barenaked Ladies’ “Call and Answer,” which is on the movie collection as well as the band’s “Stunt” album. The soundtrack album is due March 16, the movie March 26. . . .

The Cranberries’ third album, the band’s first since 1996, is due in April, titled “Bury the Hatchet.” . . . Boy George is recording a version of “When Doves Cry” for a Prince tribute album to be released by L.A.-based Cleopatra Records. Ice-T and Missing Persons’ Dale Bozzio are also set to do songs for the set, due toward the end of the year. . . .

The Cure, arguably the longest-lasting “alternative” band, is finishing a new album that will mark the Robert Smith-led group’s 20th anniversary. It’s due in the spring, with a tour planned to follow. . . .

John Doe moves his acting career to the TV sitcom world with a guest spot on the NBC series “Veronica’s Closet,” airing Thursday. He plays a former radical activist friend of Kathy Najimy’s character Olive. . . .

Don Was is at work producing a new album for singer-songwriter Amanda Marshall. . . . Heart guitarist Nancy Wilson is releasing her first solo album, “Live at McCabe’s Guitar Shop,” on Feb. 2. It was recorded at the Santa Monica concert space and features a few new songs along with some Heart favorites and versions of Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” and Led Zeppelin’s “The Rain Song.”*
