Maylana Martin scored 20 points and LaCresha Flannigan had 15 to lead 10th-ranked UCLA to an 80-72 victory over Stanford on Saturday at Palo Alto, ending at 67 the Cardinal’s Pacific 10 Conference home winning streak.

Stanford’s previous conference home loss was on Feb. 9, 1991, to Washington, 69-68. UCLA, 14-4 overall and 6-0 in the Pacific 10, won at Stanford for the first time since March 12, 1988.

Stanford (7-9, 3-2) got 21 points from Lindsey Yamasaki, 19 in the second half, but couldn’t overcome 27 turnovers. .

“Those turnovers absolutely cooked us in the second half,” Stanford Coach Tara VanDerveer said. “They made key fast-baskets in the transition, got it deep into their post players and finished. Their experienced post players took it to our semi-experienced post players.”

Stanford led, 34-27, early in the second half, but UCLA slowly came back and went ahead for good at 45-42 on a three-point basket by Flannigan.

The Cardinal got within 63-60 with 4:41 to play on a jump shot by Yamasaki. But Martin made a fall-away jump shot and Janae Hubbard scored on a layup to put the Bruins in control at 67-60 with 4:09 left.

“We seemed to answer all their runs,” UCLA Coach Kathy Olivier said. “Our players feel like they’ve paid their dues. We’re 6-0 in the Pac-10, and that’s all that really matters right now.”

California 61, USC 51--Paige Bowie scored 23 points after going scoreless for most of the first half, leading the Bears (7-7, 1-4) over the Trojans (6-9, 2-4) at Oakland.

Cal last defeated USC in January 1993, when current Bear Coach Marianne Stanley was in her last season as USC’s coach.
