Diana Yardley Dies; Worked for Social Causes
Diana Yardley, former Southern Orange County Adoption Guild president and wife of professional basketball Hall of Famer George Yardley, died Jan. 14. She was 67.
Yardley, a longtime officer of both the Newport Harbor Service League and the Junior League of Orange County, died at Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian after complications of a recurrence of encephalitis.
A former teacher, Yardley gave up the classroom to accompany her husband--the first player to score more than 2,000 points in a season--through his peak pro basketball years.
The couple settled in Newport Beach in 1968.
She is survived by her husband, twin sons Rob and Rich, daughters Marilyn and Anne, and 13 grandchildren.
A memorial tribute will be held Jan. 29 at the Balboa Bay Club. A viewing will be held between 3 and 7 p.m. today at Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona del Mar.
