Half a dozen students from Ventura, Camarillo and Oxnard were honored Tuesday for their achievements in visual arts, literature and photography.

They are among 16 local finalists selected to advance to a statewide arts competition, which also includes a music component.

“The program is designed to provide an opportunity for students to use their creative talents by expressing themselves through their own original works,” said Michelle Stewart, chairwoman of the Ventura County Reflections arts competition, which is sponsored by the National PTA.
