Don’t bring toast: Richard O’Brien’s cult classic, “The Rocky Horror Show,” above, returns to its musical stage origins in a new live production starring David Arquette as Dr. Frank ‘N’ Furter. Fashion designer of note Todd Oldham is on the creative team. Opens Friday at the Tiffany Theater.

It’s a week rich in recitals: American pianist Peter Serkin plays in the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion Monday night and gives another program in Founders Hall at OCPAC on Thursday. Violinist Itzhak Perlman returns to play in Royce Hall, UCLA, Tuesday; Thursday he plays in Escondido. Meanwhile, pianist Gloria Cheng-Cochran continues the Piano Spheres series in Pasadena, Wednesday.

To celebrate the release of her second Brownstone CD, San Francisco-based singer Sherri Roberts performs at Catalina’s on Monday night with a group that includes fluegelhornist Dmitri Matheny. A superior bop and standards vocalist, Roberts puts plenty of feeling and swing into her music.

What X was to Los Angeles, Maldita Vecindad, above, is to Mexico City--a rocking reflection of the urban terrain. The band’s last L.A. show was at the Greek Theatre, so their dates Monday and Tuesday at the House of Blues afford a chance to experience their multicultural mix up close.

Video

One of the biggest box-office surprises of last year was “Rush Hour,” top right, a fast-paced comedy-action film starring martial arts great Jackie Chan, right, and popular comedian Chris Tucker. The film, which took in more than $130 million, makes its video debut Tuesday.

Movies

Freddie Prinze Jr. heads a large cast in “She’s All That,” a romantic comedy set in an upscale L.A.-area high school during those heady days between spring break and graduation. Opening in general release on Friday.
