Pepperdine Hangs On to Defeat San Diego

Pepperdine extended its winning streak to four games Saturday night with a 62-58 victory over San Diego at San Diego.

The Waves, 14-7 overall and 5-1 in the West Coast Conference, built a 33-22 halftime lead but San Diego (12-6, 3-3) came out rejuvenated in the second half.

A three-point basket by Brock Jacobsen pulled the Toreros to within 60-58 with 14 seconds to play, but his foul at the other end led to two free throws by Pepperdine’s Tommie Prince, sealing the victory for the Waves.

Nick Sheppard led Pepperdine with 11 points, including eight during a 12-2 first-half run.

Prince scored 10 points.

Pepperdine’s Jelani Gardner, who had scored 20 points or more in three consecutive games, had seven points, five rebounds and four assists.

Dana White led San Diego with 14 points and seven assists, and Jacobsen had 13 points, six rebounds and five assists.
