Needed Rain Arrives With More on the Way

Dark skies that threatened rain throughout Ventura County gave way to precipitation late Sunday afternoon, and the showers should continue throughout today.

As much as an inch of rain in the valleys and up to 2 inches in the mountain areas of the county are expected today, said Jeff House, a meteorologist with WeatherData Inc., which provides forecasts for The Times.

“It’s looking like a pretty decent rainfall,” House said. “You are behind, so it will be good.”

Ojai is nearly 8 inches behind in rain so far this rain season, according to local monitoring gauges.

An upper-level low-pressure system is being credited for the needed rains, House said. There is also a chance of thunderstorms throughout the day, but they are more likely in Los Angeles and Orange counties.

The storm system will leave tonight and a new system is expected to bring additional rain Tuesday.

“That one will be weaker and smaller,” House said.

High temperatures today may hit 60 degrees and the lows should drop to the low 50s.
