Representatives
A Jan. 15 letter by Tahnda Bailey states, “I thought I was electing people who would represent me,” but adds that that is not what happens. On the contrary, I consider that the representative in Congress from my district does represent me.
However, at the time he/she votes on an issue before Congress, I hope and expect that he/she will have much more pro and con, current information on the particular issue than I have, and I expect my representative to use his/her best judgment in voting and not vote according to meaningless public opinion polls.
When I don’t agree with a vote my representative has made, I often write to ask the reason for his decision and usually find it is quite valid.
