Notes
As expected, nobody has commanded the stage here like Shannon Sharpe.
Some of the greatest hits from the Bronco tight end’s command performance Tuesday:
* On Falcon safety Eugene Robinson, who has vowed to stop him: “He’s not done a lot of talking in the past, because he’s always played for the Seahawks, who are terrible. We’ve always beaten his eyes out. We beat him in Seattle, then last year, we beat him in Green Bay. He can’t out-talk me, and he can’t cover me.”
* More on Robinson: ‘He went to Colgate, but it doesn’t matter to me. I didn’t go to Harvard [he went to Savannah State], but I can count to a million.”
* On the Dallas Cowboys: “They used to be America’s Team, but now they’re America’s Most-Wanted team. [The Broncos] are now considered America’s team.”
* About talking: “I’ve always been a great talker. In school I would get A’s and B’s in subjects, and an F in conduct. My grandma used to tell me to wait until I got to school to talk. People in school used to tell me to wait until I got home to talk. I’d rather take my chances in school than with Grandma.”
* On fans: “On Sunday, there will be 17,500 Bronco fans, and 17,500 Falcon fans. The rest will be drunk and they won’t care who wins.”
* On his brother Sterling, an ESPN announcer: “I got mad this year when he said we didn’t have great athletes. I called him and said, ‘If you are talking about my teammates, then you are talking about me.’ I told him if he keeps doing that, I would change my number and he couldn’t talk to me anymore.”
