Jason Terry’s spinning jumper with 3.4 seconds left gave No. 13 Arizona a 78-76 victory over No. 3 Stanford in a Pacific 10 Conference game on Thursday night at Tucson.

Terry scored 29 points as Arizona, 14-3 overall and 6-2 in the Pac-10, won its 25th consecutive game at McKale Center. Stanford (17-3, 7-1) had its win streak end at 13.

After Terry’s last basket and a timeout, Stanford got the ball to Kris Weems, but his desperation shot from the backcourt under pressure fell 10 feet short of the rim.

A.J. Bramlett, whose two missed free throws in the final seconds cost Arizona a victory Saturday at Oregon State, made all six of his foul shots in the last four minutes. The Wildcats made 11 of 12 free throws in the final 4:23.

Stanford’s Jarron Collins, a 56% free-throw shooter, made two with 11.5 seconds to go to tie the game at 76-76. The second free throw came after a beam from a laser pen was flashed in his face from the crowd. After the incident, officials conferred with Arizona Coach Lute Olson, who took the arena microphone and urged an unknown fan to put away the laser pen.

“Fans, we don’t want anyone hurt on the court,” Olson said. “Whoever has the laser just put it away and yell for the ‘Cats.”

Stanford guards Arthur Lee and Weems shot a combined eight for 25. Because Lee had four fouls, Weems defended Terry down the stretch. On Arizona’s final possession, Terry took the ball into the key, made a 360-degree spin and floated up for the jumper.

After the game, Arizona’s fans rushed the court in an unusual display of fervor for a program that has a 166-10 at McKale since the 1987-88 season.

The Wildcats, averaging 18 turnovers a game, had only six, compared to 12 for Stanford. Terry, the point guard, had only one.

No. 5 Cincinnati 87, Xavier of Ohio 77--Melvin Levett and Steve Logan made three-point shots in the final two minutes at Cincinnati to lead the Bearcats (19-1) to their first victory in three years over the Musketeers (15-5). Cincinnati extended its home win streak to 28 games, while Xavier lost for the first time in 11 games.

Cincinnati repeatedly went inside to build an 11-point lead early in the second half, then fell behind by three after Xavier went on a 13-0 run. There were six more lead changes and five ties before Cincinnati went ahead, 70-65, on Logan’s three-point play with 5:27 left.

Xavier got within one before Logan and Levett, who had 25 points, made their three-pointers to give the Bearcats an 81-74 lead with 1:16 left. Cincinnati was two for 11 on three-point attempts before those shots.

Gary Lumpkin led Xavier with 25 points.
