STANTON

After nearly six months of courting funds to aid the 20-year-old Stanton Neighborhood Center, center officials were notified earlier this week that they will receive $300,000 from the state to make much-needed repairs. City officials have worked closely with state Sen. Joe Dunn (D-Santa Ana), whose district includes Stanton, to get the center’s request for funds included in the just-passed state budget.

In March, the Orange County Housing Authority denied the center, on Santa Paula Street, a $15,000 grant. The City Council has tabled discussions on the fate of the community center since spring. Now, with funding secured, the city can begin to make repairs to the site, officials said.
