Nancy Becker Kennedy will perform her autobiographical one-woman show, “I Had to Break My Neck to Get Here,” at 8 tonight and Saturday night at Exile Books & Music, 14925 Magnolia Blvd., Sherman Oaks. At 20, Kennedy suffered a spinal-cord injury that left her a quadriplegic. Two years ago, she was about to become the first person in a wheelchair to be a series regular on a CBS-TV prime-time sitcom when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Kennedy says she wrote her show to let others know what it’s like to experience such dramatic life changes. $8 each night. Author Tom Nolan will sign and discuss his biography of mystery novelist Ross MacDonald at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Barnes & Noble, 731 N. San Fernando Road, Burbank. When he died in 1983, MacDonald was one of America’s most popular crime fiction writers, responsible for the Lew Archer series. To coincide with the 50th anniversary of the publication of MacDonald’s first Lew Archer novel, Nolan has drawn upon his unrestricted access to MacDonald’s archives and correspondence to produce the first full-length biography of this well-regarded author.
