He’d Like to Put Women in Their Place

Share

Last Saturday in Viewpoint we were once again treated to opposing sides of an old argument. A male writer complained of not enough coverage of the Stanley Cup game, and too much coverage of the WNBA and Women’s World Cup. A female writer complained of an insensitive and biased slant by a male writer covering said World Cup.

The answer to keeping people like this happy is so simple. Though I’m not surprised no one has come forth to suggest it, I will: A “Women’s Sports” section! Take Diane Pucin, Venus & Serena, Mia Hamm, the WNBA, and other female-related sports and columns, and put them in their own section (Jury is still out on what to do with the LPGA). Hire more female writers to write about female events from a female point of view. Certainly, any enlightened and sensitive males among your readership would be free to enjoy this section as well.

Meanwhile, you would be doing an even greater service to the rest of us, who still long for one last, tiny corner of the world where the female presence doesn’t intrude and annoy.
