Middle School Graduate Receives Honor

* Jennifer Murray, a recent graduate of Chaparral Middle School, received an American Legion School Award. It is given annually to a graduating middle school student “who best exemplifies the qualities of courage, honor, leadership, scholarship and service.” Jennifer will attend Moorpark High School in the fall.

Special Education Seniors Get Scholarships

* The Special Education Advisory Committee announced the winners of its annual scholarship program. Each of the following graduating seniors was honored with a $500 award to assist them in continuing their education:

Megan Hibbitts and Stephanie McMullen of Simi Valley High School; Angela Kemps and Jackson Prokop of Royal High School; Pat Utiger of Santa Susana High School; and Jason Boemeke of Apollo High School.

United Parents Receives $2,000 Grant

* United Parents for Children and Adolescents With Emotional, Behavioral and Mental Disorders received a $2,000 grant from the Maxine Crossley Fund. The grant money, which was administered by the Ventura County Community Foundation, will be used to purchase computer equipment. United Parents provides support and educational assistance for Ventura County families and their children.
