Driver’s License for Illegal Aliens

Share

Re “Bill Would Open Driving to Illegal Immigrants,” July 5: Only in California can an illegal immigrant like Jose Luis Pena have four vehicles seized for not having a driver’s license, remain in the country and have his picture appear in the newspaper as if he is a victim. What a farce! To rescind the legal residency rule would not encourage lawbreakers like Pena to become financially responsible (insurance). It would simply further validate their existence here.

Absolutely inexcusable. The new crop of Latino politicians is doing exactly what I predicted. Bending the rules for their illegal constituents! In your article some of the illegal immigrants complained that not having a driver’s license has cost them time, money and trouble. Good. Entering and living in this county illegally shouldn’t be easy.

If you want the numerous benefits of living and working in the U.S., the very least you can do is enter legally instead of sneaking in. Many other immigrants have made an effort to do so.

I have a few questions about state Sen. Richard Mountjoy’s (R-Arcadia) statement, “They ought to put them in a bus, drive them to the border and send them home.”

To which border would the senator drive the bus? North or south?

Could the senator drive a bus to Asia? Or is Mountjoy suggesting that the only illegal immigrants come from south of the U.S. border?

Re your article: AB 1094 also passed the Assembly, which would permit people who can show proof of legal residency in the U.S. to register at the polling place on election day and vote immediately. Included as proof of residency is a driver’s license! Even one fraudulent vote is too many. Is anyone minding the store?
