Caltrans will resume repaving an accident-prone 10-mile stretch of the San Joaquin Hills toll road this weekend. Thirty-one rain-related accidents in the road’s first year prompted state transportation officials to commit $2 million to the resurfacing project. Work on the southbound lanes was completed last fall, before the rainy winter season, but poor weather conditions halted resurfacing of the northbound lanes.

The paving operation starts Saturday and Sunday, with work from Greenfield to El Toro roads scheduled between 5 a.m. and 9 p.m. The work will continue over the next seven weekends, Caltrans officials said, although lane restrictions should be limited to four weekends. Electric message boards and signs will be used to direct motorists.
