David A. Caufield; Arts Center Official

David Arthur Caufield, assistant manager of the Performing Arts Center in Oxnard, died Tuesday. He was 58.

He was born on March 31, 1941, in Medina, N.Y., and grew up in the town of Wilson. Caufield went on to graduate from Delhi University in New York.

From 1961 to 1965, he served in the Navy in the Philippines and Vietnam.

He met his wife, Barbara Berge, in the choir at the Port Hueneme Chapel. They were married Oct. 20, 1962.

He worked for the city of Oxnard for 28 years, eventually taking the administrative position at the Performing Arts Center.

His wife said they both loved music. She also said that her husband was especially close to his daughter, Kathleen Dow.

“He was the wind beneath our wings,” said Barbara Caufield.

David Caufield was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Oxnard, a past elder and a member of the choir.

He was also active in the Lions organization. He was a member of the Oxnard Noontime Lions, a past member of the Leo’s Club, and served on the Board of Directors of the Southern California Lions Institute.

He was a volunteer at the Special Olympics, an announcer for the Oxnard High School Band, and served on the Board of Directors of the Oxnard Federal Credit Union.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his name can be made to the City of Hope, National Medical Center in Duarte, or a favorite charity.

In addition to his wife of 36 years, he is survived by Dow, of Austin, Texas, and brother Donald of Warren, Pa.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the James A. Reardon Mortuary in Oxnard.

The service is scheduled for 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Oxnard, with Dr. Charles Griffin officiating.

Arrangements are under the direction of the James A. Reardon Mortuary in Oxnard.
