* General Mills Inc. said its president, Charles Gaillard, will retire Oct. 1. Upon Gaillard’s departure, Steve Demeritt will become vice chairman. He is now chief executive of Cereal Partners Worldwide, a joint venture of General Mills and Nestle. Ray Viault, General Mills’ other vice chairman, will now be in charge of the company’s Betty Crocker baking goods and new ventures unit. He oversees the global convenience foods business, among other duties.
