The Gary Center has received a $10,000 grant from the PacifiCare Foundation. The nonprofit organization has offered substance abuse counseling, dental services, parenting classes and food to the community since 1970. The grant will be used to augment the fees of needy clinic patients. Last year, more than 4,400 people used its services. The center was founded in 1970 in honor of teenager Gary Stafford, who died of a drug overdose. The center is at 341 S. Hillcrest St. Information: (562) 691-3263.
