A young man died after driving off the road in Fountain Valley early Saturday.
The accident occurred about 1:35 a.m. on Edinger Avenue west of Harbor Boulevard. The car hit a curb, struck a power pole and flew over a six-foot fence before landing on the driver’s side in a vacant lot, police reported.
The driver, believed to be 18 to 25 years old, was found lying outside his crumpled car, according to Fountain Valley Police Sgt. Kevin McKeown. He died at the scene. Police did not release his name, pending notification of his family.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the driver was heading east on Edinger when he struck the curb and the power pole, catapulting his 1981 Toyota Celica into the air.
