District Plan for Illegal Students

Share

Regarding the Anaheim Union High School District’s plan to count students in the U.S. illegally (July 16):

The district board adopted a position that inadvertently gives fuel to possible tensions among students.

Students who consider themselves legal Americans might think the “foreign-looking” child is taking away educational opportunities.

This without knowing that the foreign-looking child’s parents more than likely work and pay taxes, thus paying for their child’s education in the U.S.

This without knowing that this child was probably born in the U.S. and is a citizen.

Will kids who “look foreign” have to carry a sign that shows they were not born outside the U.S. or that they are here legally?

That would probably be the only way they can save themselves some grief. The trustees could have done this in a more responsible and tactful manner.
