SAN CLEMENTE
City vehicles soon will be carrying messages recommending to residents what to buy and where to shop. The City Council recently approved, by a 4-1 vote, a program to sell advertising space on 25 city-owned, nonemergency vehicles. The program is expected to generate $15,000 a year by selling 11-by-50-inch signs for $600 a year. San Clemente isn’t the first government agency to use city capital to generate non-tax revenue. Oceanside, San Diego County, El Cajon, Encinitas and Vista all have similar programs. Information: (949) 361-8200.
