Guadalupe H. Aguirre; Grocery Store Owner
Guadalupe Hernandez Aguirre, a former Santa Paula grocery store owner, died Tuesday at the age of 93.
She was born Dec. 12, 1905, in Zacatecas, Mexico.
She married Pedro Sandoval Aguirre, and they moved to Rancho Sespe about 1920. They purchased property in Santa Paula about 1939, and it was there that they raised their five children.
In 1945, she bought a neighborhood grocery store, which she later gave to her son, Don.
She and her husband were longtime members of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Santa Paula.
She was also a member of the Guadalupans Society.
Aguirre was preceded in death by her husband, Pedro; a son, Jess; and a great-grandson, Sheriff’s Deputy Peter Aguirre Jr.
She is survived by her son, Don; three daughters, Savina Garcia, Josie Osuna and Shavie Marquez; and daughter-in-law Virginia Aguirre, all of Santa Paula; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday at Pierce Bros. Stetler Mortuary. A rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church.
The funeral Mass is scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, with Father Nelson Trinidad officiating.
Interment will be at Pierce Bros. Santa Paula Cemetery.
Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Bros. Stetler Mortuary in Santa Paula.
